Here’s a summary via the good ol’ HuffnPuff:
FLORENCE, S.C. — Newt Gingrich said Tuesday that he is the only Republican candidate capable of beating out Mitt Romney for the party’s nomination, and suggested that the other candidates drop out so conservatives can unite behind him.
“If we win on Saturday, I think I will be the nominee,” Gingrich said during a town hall meeting with voters here. “I’m the only conservative who realistically has a chance to be the nominee.”
“So any vote for [Rick] Santorum or [Rick] Perry, in effect, is a vote to allow Romney to become the nominee, because we’ve got to bring conservatives together in order to stop him,” Gingrich said.
The GOP’s conservative base is currently split largely between Gingrich, the former House Speaker from Georgia, and Santorum, the former Pennsylvania senator. Texas Gov. Perry is lagging but still receiving some support from the same pool of voters.
Gingrich’s comments were driven by a recognition that with only a few days to go before the Palmetto State votes in its primary Saturday, a conservative splintering will likely allow Romney to win, which would make him very hard to beat from that point on.
“The challenge to me is to convince conservatives to come home and have a single candidate on Saturday, and I’m going to work very hard over the next four days to do that,” Gingrich said.
You can read this in it’s entirety here, and believe there is much more.
Video above is from Fox and Friends from early Wed. morning, you can read more here.
Now we go back to the rest of the continuing story from Tuesday which naturally led Santorum to respond to Gingrich calls for him to step aside before the primary vote in S.C. Saturday with a strong reply:
LEXINGTON, S.C. — Rick Santorum decried Newt Gingrich Tuesday afternoon for having the “arrogance” to call on him and Rick Perry to drop out of the Republican primary before South Carolina’s primary vote this Saturday.
“It’s an enormous amount of hubris for someone who lost their first two races, who thinks enough of themselves –- because a couple of polls have him at this moment in time ahead of me –- that everybody should step aside and let him, who hasn’t defeated me in two of the elections so far, to let him have a wide berth,” said Santorum, a former Pennsylvania senator.
He also added this:
But Santorum said Gingrich’s comments earlier in the day here in the state represented a “character issue.”
“I wouldn’t be so arrogant as to suggest that anybody gets out of this race,” Santorum said.
He described Gingrich as erratic, saying he has been “for the business community one day and railing against it the next day” and “for global warming one day and railing against it the next day.”
“We need someone who has that stability, someone who has that sense of understanding and humility, that can be a leader of our country.”
You can read all of this in full at the link I have posted above.
Add your Two-Cents friends…what say you? Do you think Newt’s arrogance will come back to bite him…again, just as is did in early to mid-December, or do you think the Perry and Santorum should do as told by the ‘Smartest Man in the Room‘ (just ask him) Newt Gingrich and step aside pronto!?
Like they say, politics is a Blood-Sport…but it takes a lot of audacity to call on other GOP candidates to step down just days before the S.C. primary vote.
I do give Newt credit for being great in debates, he always is…but being a great debater isn’t why or how I would vote for anyone to be the next president, there is a lot more to a person than being able to debate well. Newt’s record in the past in many areas has many people having major problems for not being able to cast a vote for him. Plus his attack on Romney and capitalism wasn’t the smartest idea in the world…and then we have Freddie Mac, amnesty for illegals, global warming etc etc.
These are just a few of my opinions folks, we’re getting to ‘Down & Dirty‘ Time…throw out your opinions on this race so far.
Fire Away…Inquiring Minds Want to Know!
Shortlink:
I have lived in Georgia through the rise and fall of Newt in the House of Representatives. He’s not my choice, but I’m not making the decisions. My first choice was Cain until the Chicago bimbos came out of the sewer. Then, I went with Michele Bachmann the only other true conservative until the voters in fly-over country became smitten with Mittens. If Newt or Mittens is the nominee I’ll do as I did in 08, hold my nose and pull the lever with R on it. I’ll get through this if the Bud Lite holds out.

Howdy n2ln…
Actually, I was hoping with all my heart Pence would get in the race, stated so here and elsewhere many times, but heck, he’s going to be the next Gov. of Indiana it seems instead…DeMint would have been great too.
Anyway…it was Cain, Bachmann or Santorum for me too…now we’re down to what it is, but I do hope Santurom moves up…if it’s a choice between Newt and Romney, Romney has my vote…I don’t know if I can ever vote for Newt…I remember what he did to a few House members in the western states that didn’t bow to his wishes, I’ll never forgive him for that…ever.
Nevertheless..we shall see as time flies by, and it will by the time Nov. gets here.
I’m like you…as long as I have my Busch beer…we can hold our noses and do it again I suppose.
Cheers!
One other thing…we all may end up being very surprised if we did end up with Romney, he just very well be one of the best presidents we’ve had…you just never know.
At least he is NOT for any amnesty as Newt is.

Newt is not a conservative. He is a libcon flip flopper. One minuet he is railing against capitalism the next he is sitting with Pelosi in a love fest for global warming. He talks about how Fannie And Freddie ruined the housing market after he takes their money. He called Paul Ryan’s plan right wing social engineering. He is for cap & trade or is he? I don’t know anymore he goes from conservative to liberal so much he makes me dizzy. Just another reason why i can’t stand this arrogant sombitch. The gall of this poser telling Santorum & Perry to bow out when either one of them is a thousand times more conservative than he will ever be is outrageous. Obama has the biggest head this bastard,Newt runs a very close second. I think that if anybody should bow out it should be Newtie boy.

Newt is his own worst enemy…
He is NOT a conservative by any measure–and his morals are lower than that of Bill Clinton.
Look at the facts—he was doing his current wife, while criticizing Bill Clinton for his cheating; while the Newt was married.
He’s a serial adulterer–he’s on wife number 3…..just wait until she gets sick..
Newt is the ONLY Speaker of the House to be convicted on ethics violations and was fined $300K–and resigned in disgrace.
Mr. Conservative made the famous PSA video with Pelosi on global warming and endorsed ‘cap and trade’, before he was against both..
Newt supported socialized medicine and Romneycare—now he doesn’t.
Newt traveled the country with Al Sharpton, speaking and in support of Obama’s liberal educational policies….
Newt is an arrogant, hateful, anti-conservative who has the lowest ethics of anyone in politics…
Furthermore, he is a whiner……and few people really like this morally bankrupt, arrogant Presidential wannabe.
Obama would chew him up and spit him out…while Newt was crying ‘unfair’. Newt isn’t likeable and he is his own worse enemy…
While none of the candidates are MY optimum, at least Romney has the cool to focus on the Obama, not whine and has class….
Newt has NO class….he’ll NEVER be President….
Romney will be President…….

Amen and Hallelujah to that post of yours!….
Plus don’t forget about his Amnesty plans and the attack he had regarding capitalism when it came to Romney. We could go on and on with this guy, he sticks his finger in the wind and goes whichever way he thinks the wind is blowing at the moment.
His arrogance is something to behold, I’ve never seen anything like it from our side of the aisle in a long time…and he’s now blatant about it for all to see…whereas he used to keep that part of himself pretty well hidden behind the scenes.
Will the real Newt please stand up!

Why am I not surprised by Newt’s latest diatribe?
Newt is just allowing himself to be swept up by that thunderous audience response he received after stunning that liberal mouthpiece, Juan Williams during Fox’s GOP debate this past Sunday.
We cannot allow ourselves as intelligent voters to become sidetracked by these theatrical, televised presidential debates.
Somebody needs to remind Newt that this is a presidential race and not some casting call for an up and coming feature length film!

“The GOP’s conservative base is currently split largely between Gingrich, the former House Speaker from Georgia, and Santorum, the former Pennsylvania senator. Texas Gov. Perry is lagging but still receiving some support from the same pool of voters.”
If the conservative base is really supporting these left-wing fascists, these cowards, these politically-correct bitches, then the conservative base is in full flight from reality.
If you are a decent, White, right-wing citizen then ALL of these people are as much your deadly enemy as Obonzo. That includes Captain Underoos.
There is no one to vote for in the coming election. We must stop buying what these traitors are selling and we must be seen and heard when we loudly reject them. Only then will the game change. Only then will opportunities open up. Only when we demand a leader that isn’t an enthusiast for third-world savages and left-wing corporatists.

Enoch –
I largely agree with your comments; but, being a realist, and understanding that there is NOT a current conservative that has the wide appeal to Independents and those who are unhappy with Obama..
Newt is not the man who can beat him…
The goal is to DEFEAT Obama. Plain and simple.
Just the fact that Obama can change the SCOUS is THE reason to sweep him out of office…
We need to focus on changing the dynamics of congress—retain control of the House and gain control of the Senate…by electing conservatives.
Congress can keep the President in check…
We have to work with what we have….I don’t like it, but, THAT is reality..
Respectfully….

We are ‘less’ screwed than reelecting Obama….
Unless we take the initiative to contact our local and national representatives and drowned out the liberal voices who manage to get their ear–and be the louder voice, our voice and will will be lost..
We need to trust ourselves…..and act on it…

Hey Biggie, I know I haven’t been giving my input (running my mouth!) here too much lately, just been covered up with some stuff. Playing a little catch-up here and trying to get current again so I can comment. Sent The Dude an article, some stuff I found out about our ‘friends across the aisle’ that if he approves of it I think you and many here will appreciate.
In the process of catching up, I’ve seen some hella things I never thought I would- a more than one-way conversation from Spurwing when he replied to your reply to him, and Swampie and you softening up to Ron Paul?!? I DUCKED WHEN I READ THAT!!!

Totally agree with him when it comes to domestic policies and following the Constitution type of thing.
He also has no chance of being Prez…so that matters not much at this point of the game.
As to Spur…he floored me too. Glad to see him throw in his two cents here…he may be smarter than many of us…and not bother to get into back and forths with each other if ya know what I mean.

“…a lot more to Paul that I did research on that I agree with…”
Ya, I know that he comes off like ‘your crazy uncle’ sometimes, but (and I have not really given any input into this) … when in the ‘debates’ they say, “ok what’s your foreign policy going to be? 60 seconds, GO!” When some of RP’s stances would be four-year college degrees at good schools. Also, didn’t about 75-80% of the “establishment” say that Reagan had no clue and no chance? Won by a landslide… ya never know.
I do know this- and not afraid to say it- we’re caught up in the “party of evil” vs. the “party of stupid.” “The system is broken.” “RINO season!” What’s RP going to do? F*** it all up?!?!

January 18, 2012 at 10:07 pm
Paul isn’t going to frig anything up…he may get attention at the conventions with his delegate count, but that’s about it.
He isn’t going to run third party..at least not in my opinion.
He’s got Rand Paul to think about…and it was really obvious how tired he was at the last debate to-boot.
Just my thoughts ~

Ahhhh, Biggie- I’m not going to go “Paulbot” on you all of a sudden or anything, but that’s what I’m saying! Especially with Callista’s latest announcement you reference below.
We will see what she has to say. Sounds like it’s not going to be good news (good Newts!), but… who does that leave? F*n ‘Mittens?’
I was surprised- truly was- at a pool party a couple of years ago- I got a kick out of some girl-on-girl action. But some “our democrat” vs. “their Democrat” action? Nah… No interest. And that’s what Mittens Romneycare would be.
BTW at this point I would be remiss if I didn’t mention HOW F* IMPORTANT IT IS TO ~CONQUER~ THE HOUSE AND SENATE THIS TIME AROUND!!!

Seems Gingrich got his way, he’s been in talks with Perry for a week or more now to drop out…reports are that Perry will endorse Newty. There has also been rumors that Perry went ahead and did this today to help deflect the ABC interview with Newt’s ex-wife to air tonight.
Seems strange Perry didn’t endorse Santorum…endorsements doesn’t matter a rats rear to me anyway…never have.
