QUESTION OF THE DAY: DO YOU THINK THERE’S A ‘SINISTER’ ROMNEY-PAUL ALLIANCE?

Filed under: Potpourri,Question of the Day,Random Posts |

After Wednesday’s night GOP debate from Mesa, Arizona speculation was running rampant all over the place on the Boob-Tube that Mitt Romney and Ron Paul were basically in bed together working in tandem to knock-off Santorum and Gingrich to some extent.

Anyhow, the next morning bright and early I tuned into the ‘Morning Schmo Show’ to see what their take on this would be…and sure enough, they didn’t disappoint. You can see that for your self in the video above…if you can’t watch it or don’t want to, here’s a summary.

Here’s a really good report about this from of all places – the LA Times:

Mitt Romney and Ron Paul — friends, and a political odd couple. But are they in “cahoots” in the Republican primary fight?

Rick Santorum can’t help but think so these days. Though Paul hasn’t campaigned yet in Michigan, which at this point is a showdown between Romney and Santorum, Paul has a television ad running there that calls the former Pennsylvania senator a “fake conservative.”

It’s an attack Paul gleefully repeated in Wednesday night’s debate, prompting Santorum to later publicly speculate about a Romney-Paul alliance.

“Their commercials look a lot alike, and so do their attacks,” he said in the spin room after the Arizona tilt.

Sen. Rand Paul, son of the Texas congressman, added more fuel to the speculation the same day when he told reporters in Kentucky that he would be “honored” to be considered as a potential running mate for Romney. Hardly a firm commitment, but enough to drive the meme.

“Whether it’s true or not that there has been an actual meeting of the minds in conversations and strategy developed between the two guys, it is clear that there’s a hands-off policy between Paul to Romney and vice-versa,” conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh said on his show Thursday. “Paul does not attack Romney. Ron Paul attacks every one of Romney’s opponents; Romney doesn’t attack Paul.”

Paul, who has maintained a fairly substantial campaign war chest throughout his campaign, has had a knack for going on the air against some of the lead “anti-Romneys” of the moment.

So what would the two have to offer each other if there is an alliance?

For Paul, it’s popularity among GOP voters that Romney needs. Exit polls from the initial primaries and caucuses have shown Paul tends to have support from younger voters, lower-income voters and those who lean independent – all areas of weakness for Romney.

But Paul’s voters also have been the most resolute — to use a term Romney used to describe himself during Wednesday’s debate – in support of their chosen candidate. There’s hardly a guarantee that they would swing toward Romney if Paul dropped out.

What does Romney have to offer Paul? If the former Massachusetts governor wins the nomination, a seat at the table. Paul remained in the 2008 GOP race far longer than any other challenger, even after John McCain had clinched the nomination. But when it came convention time, he was nowhere to be found – not on stage in prime time, at least.

Paul’s delegate-driven strategy, if successful, will guarantee him a say no matter who the nominee is. But some believe he may have the best chance of playing a significant part under Romney. And if not for Paul himself — who said he won’t run again for his House seat even if he doesn’t win the nomination — then some think he’s trying to secure a future for his son, Rand.

Romney’s backers deny any alliance, informal or otherwise.

“Clearly Congressman Paul has said things about Gov. Romney that have been favorable, but they’ve also been accurate,” Tim Pawlenty, a former contender and now Romney backer, said on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” today. “I know Mitt, and I know Ron Paul. … Probably the last person to quote, unquote cut a backroom deal in American politics would be Ron Paul.”

You can read more about video below here if you can’t watch it.

The reason I stated above the report from the LAT’s summed it up well, is because they did… and kept it to the point. I heard live El Rushbo’s raido show and some of Mark Levin’s show touting the same theories…if memory serves me right, this gossip all started with the UK Daily Mail the day of the debate.

Personally, I tend to agree with what Tim Pawlenty surmised about all of this when he was on Morning Schmo…but that’s just me.

What say you? Do you think they’re in ‘Cahoots‘…or is this is just politics and the best man wins, fight to the finish type of thing and much ado about nothing..or do you think there really is something much more sinister here between Romney and Paul? After-all, they don’t call politics a ‘Blood-Sport‘ for nada!

  1. Here’s Santorum today on Laura Ingraham’s Radio Show, he talks about the alliance and also talks about the BS with who promised who what when it came to Specter and the so-called deal they made for support for of Spector over Toomney way back when…and I remember that well, was really disappointed in Santorum for the first time, know Rove and ilk (Bush) pressured him to support the RINO Spectoid back then.

  2. Well even to this ol’ crackers eye it sure seemed like Ron and Mittens was double teaming Rick. Neutster just seemed to be drafting.

OT,NOTE; I promised everyone a review of “ACT OF VALOR”. I’ll put it up in a bit over on the Sarah Palin article, seems a little more appropriate over there. For now I’ll just say GO SEE IT, it may also poke a finger in the eye of Lamestream Hollyweird, that Americans still Love a good Patriotic, pro Military movie. Frankly I’m sick to death of the Greenzones, Avatars and Valley of Elys.

As to the movie, heard Rush talking about it today, also have two links saved to put here maybe this week-end in a blog post if someone much better than me doesn’t do it first. ( which I hope they do…I can’t do it much justice.)

    • Hey Big thanks! Hey Gang I did a review of AOV and while I was typing it the site went down for maintenance. So once again a comment of mine went into the etherverse. So heres a quickie. Me and Mrs Dirty Al LOVED IT.
Would I see it again? YES, I’ll probably take my grandson to see it.
Would I recommend it? Yes, just not to liberals, that would be equal to casting pearls before swine.
Action was great. I had to take 2 Nitros during course of movie. The end of movie was very moving and a memorial. I stood and saluted and after theater cleared out (I waited)I got down on my knees and THANKED GOD FOR ROUGH MEN!

And screw the left…they don’t even want to talk about it, let alone acknowledge it.

It was great to see a positive movie about our military, and especially great to see one with REAL HEROES in it. Go see it and send a real message to HOLLYWEIRD this weekend.

    • Went to see it today, it was a good flick I enjoyed it, I give it an 7 out of 10 for entertainment. And a 9 out of 10 for realism. And a 10 out of 10 for having the courage to be Pro-America and profiling the villains accurately IMHO.

I liked Blackhawk Down a little better, however Act of Valor is good enough to add to the dvd collection. And very few movies make my home video cut.

      Good call Dirty Al

  6. Santorum endorsed Rand Paul’s opponent in the Kentucky U.S. Senate primary, going along with other RINO types such as Dick Cheney and Mitch McConnell…Bigtimer might be interested to know Zell MIller who seems to have been on the Georgia political scene for 100 years turned 80 yesterday.

  7. Yeah, I think there might be an R/P deal. Romney can certainly use the P-bots’ votes and if he wins it will be the closest RP will ever get to the White House. Might be just what we need to beat the Tard-in-Chief next November.

I’m for just about any strategy that will relieve us from the destructive policies of Mr. & Mrs. Crankypants!

I agree too…it does not fit Paul’s character whatsoever.

I do know, according to what I’ve read here and there- the Romney and Paul couples got to know each other since the last presidential election and hit it off. But as far as that goes, I’ve seen ads Paul has put out and they haven’t been all that kind to Romney anymore than the next guy.

After-all…they’re all in it, to win it!

  9. Ok. As far as the this whole ‘alliance’ thing, that is a theory postulated by Morning Joe Blow on CNN. Do we really want to assume that anything that comes from the Collectivist News Network is really news?

Give me a break! We don’t need more drama, we need real solutions to our countries impending problems. I think this is all side show stuff. ‘Sinister Alliance’?

I know you’re not going to like my tone, but this is a distraction on CNN’s part, and we must not fall for it.

Anyhow, you need at least ten chronological posts…it’s easy to find and comment on.

…and maybe a ‘Big Sexy Hot-Wire’ Column of the latest breaking news that covers many topics. It would be easy to do with just links that go directly to story from the blog it was posted on type of thing…and all could comment on the topic if desired.
