Roman Ruins

Possessing the best part of the earth and sea they have, on the whole, aimed to preserve their empire by the exercise of prudence, rather than to extend their sway indefinitely over poverty-stricken and profitless tribes of barbarians, some of whom I have seen at Rome offering themselves, by their ambassadors, as its subjects, but the chief of the state would not accept them because they would be of no use to it.

– Appian of Alexandra, History of Rome: Preface, c. 150

The higher incidence of poverty among immigrants as a group has increased the overall size of the population living in poverty. In 2010, 16.5 percent of those in poverty in the country were immigrants.

– Steven A. Camarota, Immigrants in the United States – A Profile of America’s Foreign-Born Population: Poverty, Welfare, and the Uninsured, Center for Immigration Studies, August 2012

Nevertheless, the 2000 Census shows that immigrants continue to receive every major welfare program at higher rates than native-born Americans.

– Edwin Rubenstein, National Data | Immigrant Welfare Scandal Continues,, August 19th, 2003

“USDA and the government of Mexico have entered into a partnership to help educate eligible Mexican nationals living in the United States about available nutrition assistance [ed.: food stamps]. Mexico will help disseminate this information through its embassy and network of approximately 50 consular offices.”

– USDA brief, Fat And Furious: Obama Pushes Food Stamps In Mexico, Investor’s Business Daily, July 20th, 2012

Starting with those two policies is not only logical, but will force Democrats to admit they have no intention of ever blocking the border. Their dearest desire is for immigrants to arrive, become dependent on government and start voting Democratic.

– Ann Coulter, Deport the GOP Establishment,, May 1st, 2012

Klein and Elliott also reveal a plan by the progressive think tank Demos to turn the United States Citizenship and Immigrant Services (USCIS) into a full voter registration agency. This would instantly transform “new Americans” into new voters—showing Democrats know exactly what they are doing in their long term plan to elect a new people.

– James Kirkpatrick, Shock! Conservatism Inc. Best-Seller Fool Me Twice Quite Good On Immigration…But Otherwise Clueless,, August 21st, 2012

By every measure and every issue – from foreign policy to immigration, the economy to taxes – Hispanic registered voters said they overwhelmingly preferred Obama over his Republican opponent.

– Domenico Montanaro, Obama leads big with Latinos, but enthusiasm still lags, NBC News, August 22nd, 2012

Think of the empire as a cell, and barbarian armies as viruses: Once the empire’s thin outer membrane was breached, invaders had free rein to pillage the interior.

– Andrew Curray, Roman Frontiers – Rome’s Border Walls Were the Beginning of Its End, National Geographic, September 2012

  1. I have always refered to them as parasites along with the American born ghetto types… soon the demands of the parasites will exceed the hosts ability to sustain it and BOTH will die

  2. David in SC says:

    The world is full, period.

Immigration is no longer desired. As long as they can leave their third world hellholes, these hellholes will never change, the only people left are the ones who cannot leave and the criminals.

Deport them all, time to think about ourselves rather than the infections that would displace our children.

  3. People make the country not the other way around. The more Mexicans we have in America the more it becomes like Mexico. In Europe it is Muslims who are changing England and France to Islamabad.

The parallels between us and Rome continue on.

During the latter years of the empire farming was done on large estates called latifundia that were owned by wealthy men who used slave labor. A farmer who had to pay workmen could not produce goods as cheaply. Many farmers could not compete with these low prices and lost or sold their farms. This not only undermined the citizen farmer who passed his values to his family, but also filled the cities with unemployed people. At one time, the emperor was importing grain to feed more than 100,000 people in Rome alone. These people were not only a burden but also had little to do but cause trouble and contribute to an ever increasing crime rate.

The roman economy suffered from inflation (an increase in prices) beginning after the reign of Marcus Aurelius. Once the Romans stopped conquering new lands, the flow of gold into the Roman economy decreased. Yet much gold was being spent by the romans to pay for luxury items. This meant that there was less gold to use in coins. As the amount of gold used in coins decreased, the coins became less valuable. To make up for this loss in value, merchants raised the prices on the goods they sold. Many people stopped using coins and began to barter to get what they needed. Eventually, salaries had to be paid in food and clothing, and taxes were collected in fruits and vegetables.

  7. Just got this email from an old friend:
I know everyone will not agree, but take the time to read it and remember where you came from.

  8. David in SC says:

Hear, Hear, for the real Americans!

    • Unfortunately there are fewer and fewer real Americans every day because of mass nonwhite immigration. Nobody, least of all the worthless GOP will do anything to stop it. Texas will soon be gone since 7 of 10 births here are now to low IQ grubby Mexicans and others.

      • Who was it that gave it all away? I’m 52. My parents went from horses and outhouses to flying on the concorde. When they passed away 7 years ago, the country was already mortgaged and seeds of distruction were already in full bloom.

Heres my perspective. My grandparents sacrificed and built it. My parents reaped the rewards. Me and my kids? I’ve struggled much more than my parents did, and God help my kids with what they will be left with.

We’ve been sold out. I didn’t do it and my grandparents didn’t do it.
I’m sure this will piss a few off, but so be it.

  9. Where has time gone, I lived most of this. Damned near broke my arm cranking my Grandfathers pickup with flowing front fenders and running boards, it was a beauty.
I’d give anything to have that PU with a gun rack in rear window, for coyotes and other assorted vermin.
