NEW GOLD STANDARD?

If you’re like AWD, you’ve been perusing stores looking for ammo. It’s very difficult to find these days. And, if you can find it, it has astronomical prices. It seems Americans are buying up anything and everything gun related fearing Obama and his big-government statist friend’s aims to destroy the Second Amendment.

Ammo isn’t the only thing flying off the shelves. Go to a Cabelas or any other gun store and you’re likely to see empty shelves and crowded counters. Obama is the greatest gun salesman in the history of the world. There is nothing to be found! In Texas, most people have guns. Well, arsenals. But it seems that a lot of the people buying guns are those who believe in the Second Amendment but have never owned guns. And they’re buying everything…anything…that goes boom. Ammo included!

About three weeks before the school shooting in Sandy Hook, AWD purchased 10 Magpul 30-round .223 magazines (not clips, dammit) for $100 online. A friend told me he saw the exact magazines at a gun show this past weekend selling for $79 apiece! Guns, ammunition and magazines have become the greatest investment since Google or Apple in the 90’s. Except those stock certificates won’t protect you from the violent thugs who will come your way with bad intentions in an economic collapse.

As much as I hate the difficulty in finding ammo at a reasonable price, AWD sees this as a great sign! It proves that Americans are not going to easily give up our 2nd Amendment rights. It also shows that Americans are preparing for the Obama apocalypse. More and more of us are seeing America going to a place we never dreamed. A place where the nation is insolvent, the dollar collapses, and anarchy ensues. If that occurs, look for the federal government to try to exercise total control over us.

Certainly, when the first welfare checks and food stamps don’t arrive, most American inner cities will be looted and burn. OK, no surprise there. It almost occurs every weekend in those cities. But what happens when those inner city “yoots” have stolen and looted everything they can steal in their parts? They will certainly move to the outer suburbs to pursue new loot and victims. In blue states where gun ownership is difficult, law-abiding citizens must be getting nervous. As they should be. What will they do? Throw rocks at the raging hordes of violent moochers coming to kill them and steal their belongings?

In red states, we are well-prepared to protect our communities. And you better believe we will put down any threat to our homes and families. We are armed to the teeth and have ammo up the wazoo. Well, you can never have enough ammo. But we are prepared to do what we must. And we will.

Over the past year or so, AWD began buying bricks of .22 LR ammo. It was cheap and readily available. Never did I believe it may be the new gold standard. Now it cannot be found! Even in my beloved Lone Star state.

It is almost impossible to find .223, .40, .45, .357 ammo. It’s also difficult to find standard rifle ammo. We don’t know what Obama and the statist’s exact plans are but we know they want to separate Americans from our guns and ammo. That is the only way they can exercise total control over us. We will not allow that to happen.

Over the past few days, we have witnessed black choppers with military personnel doing ops over Miami and Houston. We have seen DHS purchasing millions of rounds of ammo. We have seen DHS purchasing an additional 7,000 of the hated “assault rifles” they don’t want American citizens to own. We have heard reports of DHS pre-positioning ammo drops and armored vehicles across the country. What are they preparing for? Are they preparing to contain the inner city welfare-moochers when the dollar collapses? Or are they preparing to try to control the American populace?

The billion dollar question remains whether the US military would fire on our own law-abiding citiens? Obama is busy destroying the military but DHS seems to be growing in numbers and armaments. Certainly, they are preparing for something. The empty ammo shelves and gun counters suggest the American patriots are preparing, too.

If and when the dollar collapses, will ammo become the main tool of barter? Gold bars won’t protect your family. The American people are voting with guns and ammo purchases. We don’t trust our government. And with Obama’s second term beginning, we are preparing for the worst.

AWD is glad he purchased a lot of .22 ammo when the getting was good. I only wish I had purchased a whole lot more.

  1. AWD, WOW, a funny thing you wrote this,…yesterday, my bro who lives in AR called me and said he can’t find any .”22″ ammo anywhere!

He wanted me to see if I could get any here in Sacramento.
I am going to check with WalMart and see what they have.

The situation sure is looking bad and I fear we are headed for a civil war.

Sadly, I can’t really afford any more ammo right now, what with my greatly inflated dollar and rising bills and food costs every month. But I’m glad that I’ve been buying up ammo for quite a few years, every chance I got. I have no idea if it will be enough, but it seems we’ll be finding out pretty soon.

  4. Quartier LeBlanc says:

Nah, 22’s will be the new silver standard. Preppers have them for use as change or small bills for barter. I think a lot of people thought they would be slick and use 22’s for practice, hence the shortage. Unfortunately the 9mm is also gone. Incredibly it’s still the 40 and 45 that is still available. Looks like it might be a while till supply comes up.

  5. Kicking yourself for not stocking up on ammo earlier? Canned food, water purification tablets and other necessities will be next, buy now while they’re still on the shelves.

      • Quartier, I still have my ’92 Xi that slings my 2213 aluminum Chuck Adams arrows at 240 fps. Not the latest archery technology but several deer have been harpooned with it. And I can still dial it in.

You do realize what a bad influence this conversation is having on me? With ammo being what it is this might represent a new hobby. I have virtually no experience with crossbows. What do you suggest? If the Missus is going to get pissed she might as well get good and pissed.

          (0)
          • Quartier, I’ve never liked crossbows. They’re not real respected in the archery world. One of our dudes, Keep Honkin’ I’m Reloading is a big wig in the Texas Archery Association and is from Houston.

          • Quartier, archery gets in your blood. Especially if you hunt. Next year, I plan to bowhunt in North Texas for my whitetail. My bow is old but still can sling ’em.

          • Agree with AWD there Quartier.
Plus, my compound bow is just plain fun to shoot, no need for a huge space to shoot it, no need for a target more expensive than a bale of straw, neighbors don’t even know, much less mind me spending an hour or two of an evening shooting, great for learning to properly estimate windage and elevation…
Add to all that I have never spent more than $100 on the bow itself and am not really an ‘accessory’ kind of guy; it is Cheap! (except arrows lately :( but you can reuse them.)

I agree with you AWD the cost of 22’s has gone through the roof. My recent visit to C T D in Fort Worth proved it. And some of the comments about 22’s on the web site are really out there. If that is all I had I would use it. A 10-22 and a full magazine would be enough to change any would be bad guy’s mind about hurting. So let all you would be arm chair fire arm experts think about this…. Have you ever been shot in the nutz with a 22???? I bet if you had you wouldn’t be able to hurt any body…And thank you very much.

  8. Sadly you can’t reload normal .22 ammo, but its easy enough to learn how to reload pretty much any other type of ammo.

That being said I suggest you my friends stock up on reloading supplies & learn how.

With enough practice you can even learn how to make ammo you can’t legally buy, things like incendiary ammo or armor piercing ammo.
Remember it’s illegal to buy or sell but the law makes no mention about making it yourself.

  10. Dude, I was watching one of those outdoor hunting programs on tv and they were testing .22 ammo,RE: speed , penetration into ballistic gel. All did fairly well, but one off brand I beleive it was called “Aquilla” was unbeleivable. Something like 1400fps and unreal penetration for a 40gr. .22 Long rifle. I can’t find it anywhere ,but the guy’s doing the test were looking at each other like WTF is this? They said it was some kind of off brand ammo, but it was an ass kicker.

    (0)
    • It was probably loaded up with a very high temp burning powder &; a slug made out of a decently dense metal.

This would also make it more expensive then your standard plinking rounds which use so so powder &; either regular lead or lightly jacketed slugs.

The upside would be much more penetration but much less impact damage.
It would also leave more of a slug which would be easier to recover which in turn would be easier to run tests on.

  11. Yes AWD, .22 is the new gold standard. Almost every gun enthusiast has at least one .22 weapon in their arsenal. It is fun to shoot, accurate and can be effective with proper shot placement. No more $7.00 boxes of 500 to be found anywhere.
I find some ammo available from face to face sales with folks who have extra ammo. Here in FL there are several sites where ammo is available. I also bought three boxes of .223 at a pawn shop yesterday, the last of their latest shipment. They had .22 hollow points but the cost was out of line. Can’t find my beloved 7.62 x 54r anywhere. I find I am reluctant to go to the range for fear of using up my supply. Just want to know from you folks, what do you consider the proper amount of ammo to have in reserve before going to the range? I hate to let my training suffer, but worse to not have rounds when the “horde” arrives at my doorstep.

    (0)
    • I’m right there with you. Every weekend I say to myself, I’m going to the range. Then I think of all the ammo I’m going to use up, and I end up not going. As for how much? There is never enough.

It is the “Preppers”, 22 conversion kits and new shooters. Word on the street is no one and I mean no one has any 22 coversion kits for 1911s and AR platforms. My suggestion is to get a good .17 or .22 pellet rifle like my RWS 48 with a killer scope.

  15. My two cent answer to your billion dollar question. No, the military will not fire on law abiding citizens and that, my friend, is why the regime is working day and night to make sure we will all be law breakers in one form or another. They will then have grounds to use force. Who do you think fired on unarmed students at Kent State?

    (0)
  16. Amazingly enough, here in E. WA./N. ID. ….. .22’s are in abundance and the prices are pretty much what they’ve always been.
.22 mags have always been one of my all-time favorite rounds. With a well placed shot, there isn’t much (Deer-sized, on down) that you can’t bring down. I’ve always hunted turkey/quail/grouse with a .22 mag .. Because I hate spitting out shot while eating.
Technically, it’s illegal to hunt deer with a .22 .. But a shot right to the eye-hole and it’s lights out.
If nothing else, when the poo-poo hits the fan and the hordes start going bat-s**t crazy, I know I’ll still eat and be able to keep them out of my front yard.
Some may scoff at a .22 being nothing more than an annoying fly buzzing in your face, but would they volunteer to get shot with one?

    • Had occasion to visit the Cabela’s store in Boise today. I am amazed at how bare the shelves are. The salesman behind the counter told me that they had idea when more ammo was coming in. NO .22 at all, and the 45ACP was minimal. The had a good selection of 9mm, and of the various 17 cal stuff. All the shelves we marked with a “Limit of 10 Boxes” sign.

They did have a good stock of both rifles and hand guns though. Even some of those evil Assault Rifles.

  18. A kinda’ chilling idea here as to stockpiling extreme amounts of ammo (to me that would be over 10,000 rounds total):
If you are inline with what the ‘Zombies’ use, 40 cal or 5.56, then surviving the first zombie attack will get you their toys and you are well supplied. If the zombies win you don’t need it. Use your current resources to get ready in other ways.Such as food ,water purification ability .etc. . Just remember fuel doesn’t store well over time with out adequate treatment.

  19. AWD:

A comment about the red-state, blue-state terms, which I refuse to use. WE should be blue and the socialist states like CA, NY, et al should be red, just like their commie mentors, e.g. Red China.

I’m now inspired to research how we true-blue Americans got saddled with being “red” – and it’s not a trivial issue in my view. One of the important components of the Left’s Fabian strategy is controlling the language, and I suspect this is yet another example.

Psychological studies show that blue evokes feelings of calmness whereas red is more likely to evoke strong emotions, particularly anger. And blue is by far the most popular color. I bet there are lefty journalists (redundant, I realize) still chortling at the irony of sticking us with the commie color.

    (0)
    • I agree completely, and point out that it was Tim Russert of NBC who coined these terms during the 2000 election.
To illustrate the all important Why, I will refer you to Victor Marchetti’s ‘The CIA and the Cult of Intelligence”, pp. 51
Re. Edward Lansdale and operations in South Vietnam
“His activities, extensively described in the Pentagon Papers, extended to pacification programs, military training, even POLITICAL CONSULTATION: Lansdale helped design the ballots when (Ngo Dinh)Diem formally ran for President of South Vietnam in 1955. He used red, the Asian goodluck color, for Diem and green -signifying a cuckold- for Diem’s opponent. Diem won with an embarrassingly high 98% of the vote…”
Something as simple as color bias helped push an agenda in Vietnamese elections, so why not here too? And what better than to capitalize on ‘Better Dead than Red’ and ‘Red Communism’ than to paint those who stand against it in Red and portray the Demorats as ‘True Blue’- a traditional western color for friendly, righteous allies.
A simple, but effective propaganda technique that an unbiased media would have never attempted.

Hell, I use TRUE BLUE on any number of sites and have often been accused as a result of being a Demotard, which just goes to show how far reality has been hijacked.

After Sandy Hook, just a coupla bolt actions advertised. This last weekend? NOT a SINGLE RIFLE or PISTOL. Air guns only. 9mm ammo advertised. THAT’s IT!

  25. In a street by street battle a .22 cal. rifle is very effecient. It is light, easy to carry and run with, a very accurate gun and one can get very good with it in a short time; it is usually fairly rugged, and it is not that loud. Also……you can kick in most hardware and gun store windows and find a brick of .22 caliber somewhere. The bullets are light and many can be carried with little effort. A .22 will kill and certainly maim. Problems with it are that it may not be powerful enough to go through some objects like car doors and some doors etc. Your shots must be accurate but with the lack of any kick when fired makes marksmanship easy. If you want to get a squad together of trusted friends to go on a “mission”, almost everyone has a .22 cal. rifle.

If you don’t reload but would like to start, I can help you get components and even presses and equipment. I also deal in guns, body armor, and ammo. I can get 22LR too, or 9MM, .223, 7.62, ets. We are starting to get some ammo back in stores in my area,Mississippi, but no .22lr yet.As for confiscation of guns,if it starts, there won’t be many guns taken before word gets out and the government has an insurrection on they’re hands, and there are a lot more armed citizens in this country than law enforcement or military that would follow the communist presidents orders. As for UN or NATO troops coming in to help, they would be taken out with no mercy,as they”don’t live here”!We are in for bad times, but we will persevere, and overcome the fascism trying to take us over.Be prepared and ready.Keep your powder dry.
