ARE WE PREPARED FOR OUR MODERN D-DAY?

MEN OF HONOR AND COURAGE!
Today is the 65th anniversary of D-Day, when our troops stormed the beaches of France to liberate our allies from the Nazi war machine. I have also wondered what thoughts were on the minds of those men in those small boats as they approached the beaches of Normandy and heard the first shots fired at them in anger. Years ago, I saw the movie Saving Private Ryan. The opening scene portrayed the storming of Normandy. That was the hardest 20 minutes I’ve ever watched of anything in my life. One can only imagine the abject horror those men felt as they started hearing the bombs drop and bullets whizzing by. But they were men..real men…and did what they had to do. I am humble when remembering their courage and drive. I am grateful they lived to build this wonderful country where my children can live in comfort and peace! Once again, we saw American men willing to give their lives and futures to bring liberty to other people. In France’s case..people who, in many cases, weren’t willing to fight for their own liberty.
I salute the men and women who have taken the current mantle of greatness from those men of 65 years ago. As those heros of WWII start to leave us, new patriots have bravely taken the stage to protect this greatest of all nations in the history of the world. Those who believe in what de Tocqueville called “American exceptionalism.” The same was also called “a shining city on the hill” by Ronald Reagan. It means that we are the example of the world where anything is possible to anyone. Where a half-black boy can be born and abandoned by his father and become the President of the United States. That shows the greatness of this nation! However, American exceptionalism does not hold that the same President travels the world saying all nations are equal. They are not! America has brought more prosperity, security, generosity to the world than the rest of the world combined!
America will survive Obama and the aged former hippies now in power. Obama is a lesson that must be learned for the next few generations. Just as the Carter lesson was learned in the seventies. The past two generations haven’t had to struggle for anything. They believe the rest of the world drinks $6 cups of coffee at Starbucks and drives BMW’s to high school as many do here in North Texas. But it was the guts and sacrifices and principles of conservative governance by American men and women who believed in America that has made these lifestyles possible.
There will come a time in the not too near future where the strong will be called upon to step up and possibly fight for our country in the footsteps of Jefferson, Washington, Henry, Adams and Monroe. These men of wealth and education committed high treason because they refused to live under the yoke of tyranny. Many will choose to do nothing believing they and their families will be taken care of by the government. They will not. There will be some who believe in this asinine “new world order” where the nations of the world will be run by a few like the corrupt bureaucrats in the worthless United Nations. These cowards will sit on the sidelines and shout that the world has changed, the Constitution has changed, America has changed and people have changed. None of these will be true and none of what they say will bear sway on the true patriots who will, as we have always done, is come to the rescue of America and the world. We will say to those latter day weaklings the same words that Samuel Adams spoke to them 260 years ago:
“If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude than the animated contest of freedom, go from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains sit lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen!”
Here is Ronald Reagan at the 45th anniversary of D-Day.

AWD…
What a beautifully written blog post.
Thank you.
I share your sentiments…and as always my gratitude to all who have served past and present.
Big, thanks for your kind words and your undying patriotism! The world needs more people like you!

Great post, AWD. Thank you for including the video of President Reagan. I had almost forgotten what a truly patriotic American President he was. His speech brought tears to my eyes. We can sure use another President Reagan today…patriotism is all but out the door with this administration. Pretty soon we’ll all be talking and thinking like Terry…
Obama Beach…if you haven’t seen this today…WATCH IT!

Leave it to PM Brown to do this…a slip of the tongue, nevertheless you can be sure Obama loved it.
My family doctor was a battlefield surgeon at D-Day. On an offshore hospital ship, he said that he would work until he fell and then he was dragged away from the table to a nearby cot. When he awoke he went right back to work and worked until he fell again. All the surgeons did this. He had a mental breakdown from the ordeal, and was never quite the same guy again. God Bless Them All!
Sasha, I agree about President Reagan…and he spoke without a teleprompter and didn’t apologize once!

I served in the Army, I love this country and God with all my heart and soul. No one, no not one, admires the Bible, the founding fathers and the soldiers and the constitution more than I. I agree with everything you said in your article, it is righteous and true. But man, you have got to cut hippies some slack. I am a surviving hippy also. It does not remove one iota of the love I have for this country. You can talk about those older freaks in congress any way you want, but they are nothing like me. God Bless America, God Bless our servicemen and women.
Excellent blog post.
(i think it’s supposed to be yoke of tyranny though)
Although I am an old “has been” at this point in life, my military service (Army) spanned the 70′s, 80′s, 90′s and 00′s. I volunteered for the draft in 1970 and although I had a couple of short breaks in service I spent 30 years in uniform.
My purpose in mentioning the years is to give some credence to the changes I and the Army experienced through the years. Changes that when first presented themselves made me think that “this is will destroy the military”.
The first was the end of the draft and transformation to the all volunteer Army (we called it VOLAR).
Those of us who had been in before the change over believed that VOLAR would result in a soft force that lacked discipline – after all, how can you discipline a volunteer eh?
It was indeed a rough time. We transformed from a war (Vietnam) experienced force to what is now referred to as the “hollow Army) of the 1970′s.
Things became almost intolerable during the Carter administration. Very little money for training, equipment, equipment maintenance – hell – we could not even fire individual weapons due to a lack of ammunition.
We did survive and with the election of the “Gipper” we began to rebuild the force.
Along with VOLAR the Government did away with the Woman’s Army Corps and integrated female soldiers directly into service support units. Being combat arms this did not affect me until later however can you imagine the cultural shock to the Officers and NCO’s?
When I did eventually have to deal with woman in the military I found it a challenge to my leadership skills and while I did accept the diversity and the challenge I know a number of Officers and NCO’s who did not and left the service. We did survive that too.
Through the 1980′s we got back to basics. Battle and Crew Drills, Weapons Qualification, Physical Fitness Testing, good solid individual and consolidated training. It showed in the first desert war. This type of training continued right through the invasion of Iraq.
My point is that through the years that I was humbled and honored to serve my country – the one thing that has stayed solid and continuous has been the quality of our soldiers who possess a deep desire to serve our country and a dedication that has lead a great number of our young warriors to serve multiple tours in Iraq, Afghanistan, Africa and other areas of the world when they could just as easy hang out on the block. We (the Army) have not only survived the changes and problems, but have excelled in what we do.
To answer the question at hand, yes our soldiers, sailors, airmen and woman and our marines are ready for another D Day if necessary – the real question is – is this country and its civilian “leadership” ready for another D Day.
The defense of freedom and liberty requires great sacrifice and I honestly do not believe that our nations “”leaders”" even understand the meaning of sacrifice.
President Reagans was my favorite president. He had sent my father a letter to my father back in 84 and thanked him for his service. My father was in Pattons 3rd army and had recieved a bronze star for the battle on the rhine and the saar river also.I am so proud of all the men and woman who serve!
AWD, I wish I shared your optimism for the survival of our country. When I see the spoiled, insolent, lazy generations coming up behind me, I have my doubts. Furthermore, after being educated in government indoctrination centers, oops schools, they have no concept of our history and the ideals on which our nation was founded. They have NO ability or inclination to think for themselves and readily accept what they are spoon fed by the media and celebrities. In short, they are woefully unprepared for a life where the sun doesn’t orbit around them and their selfish desires.
Firebird, wait until Daddy loses his job and the BMW goes away. And Junior can’t get a job anywhere. And gas goes to $8 per gallon and groceries go up and Islamic terrorists attack us in a big way. Just like with Jimmy Carter, Americans will turn on Obama. They are starting to turn now. It is the Republicans I fear more. They have turned their backs on conservatives who have the cojones to stop the socialists. We HAVE to get rid of the RINOS if we have a chance.

“But man, you have got to cut hippies some slack.”-Rocknrollnole
Rocknrollnole,
What you are detecting, but misinterpreting is a little bit of generational animosity.
AWD,like myself, are members of Generation X.Hippies symbolize everything, conservative members of our generation loath about the Baby Boomers.
It is the “evil hippie” half of the Baby Boomer generation,in their perpetual adolescent rebellion, that has virtually wrecked the social and economic fabric of America.
Bill and Hillary Clinton,Al Gore,George Bush and Barack Obama.(BHO is technically a “Boomer” but depending on the source some say “X”..I say NO WAY!)….need I list more?
With the cast of”characters”listed above,to name but a mere fraction,of a generation that has inflicted so much unwarrented devastation upon America,is it any wonder Gen X is bitter?
Please do not take the use of the term”hippie”personally.
There simply is not much love lost between us,and the “hippie” generation.
Hillbilly Jack
My wish and hope is that the”good”half of the Baby Boomer generation would, before it is too late, rise up in a unified fury, and take to task the seditious, treasonous America haters of your age group.Gen X is too small, and the later generations are too young. We cannot save America without you!
Amen Hillbilly,…my thoughts exactly!
I wish I could express my thoughts as well as you do.
I’ve said it before, but I’m afraid it’s going to come down to some sort of “armed revolution” before this is over.
The elites in control will NOT give it up without a fight.
Our only hope,{IMO}, is how well the “tea parties” turn out and whether we can gain control of congress in “010″!
So far the “GOP P***ies” are showing no nads and refuse to stand up and fight!
I’m even beginning to wonder about Jeff Sessions,…..will he stand up and put that bitch Sotomayors’ feet to the fire?
If the chickens**t repubs would stick together on this,…they could stop her nomination!
The cowardly bastards are too “pandering oriented”, worrying about insulting the Latino vote,…..but should have the nerve to point out that if Latinos are so narrow minded to overlook Sotomayers’ racist remarks,…and still want her confirmed,…then they wouldn’t vote repub anyway.
If the Latino community actually believes she deserves confirmation after her known racist remarks,….then they are racists also!
“Amen Hillbilly,…my thoughts exactly!
I wish I could express my thoughts as well as you do.”-Tazzmax
Thank you for the compliment Tazz.
Generational strife is a factor that is all to often ignored, concerning discussions of social, economic and political problems.
The positive trends that I see in,and emerging now,in my generation gives me hope.
Generation X is small, when compared to the Boomers and the generations that follow.Oddly so..we are remarkably conservative.Perhaps it was inevitable given the utter destruction we have witnessed throughout our lives.
We must rise to the occasion and mentor the young Americans, who never experienced America before it got so messed up.Like it or not,we are their link to a simpler and saner past.
Gen Y and Gen M are going to need our”lost”knowledge if,with their numbers they march forward intent upon cleaning up the ruin of the last half century.
Unlike many of my generation and older,I see allot of hope and potential in younger generations.Eductate them..don’t bash them,it is not their fault they are so lost.
And “Boomers”,you still yet have time to stand up,even if you are entering the winter of your lives and attempt to atone for and rectify your mistakes of the present and the past.
Your children and grandchildren would love and respect you eternally if you did.
As it stands now..I doubt if the history we write about you will be very kind.
Hillbilly Jack
AWD, I agree with you in principle, but if Junior is a brainwashed lib with no ability to think for himself, as I alluded to, he will still look for a way to blame Bush. I also agree that RINO’s are a big problem. Why not form a new, third party. I think now is the best window of opportunity since Ross Perot ran against Bush I to form a viable third party. The Constitution party seems to espouse the conservative/libertarian platform. I feel that our founding fathers emphasis on a two party system was probably the biggest flaw in their vision of our government institutions. Furthermore, if conservatives don’t take back seats in Congress in ’10 and ’12, as a nation and a people, we are toast, and our nation will be lost to the socialist/liberal agenda.
Hillbilly Jack, the hippies and flower children who caused all the problems and unrest in the 60′s are the same ones causing the problems now. The only difference is that they now members of the ruling class.
The Boomer generation was up ’till about 1965 or so. Generation X was from about 1966 or so until the early 80′s, aka the Baby Bust generation, of which I am a member.
