NY Times columnist Charles Blow has written an op-ed titled “Black In The Age of Obama” which illustrates the mindset of victimization that permeates much of black America. It also measures down to the low journalistic standards expected of the dying NY Times. Blow’s piece complains that nothing has really changed for American blacks since the election of Obama…except more poverty with the economic downturn and more racism. Blow says:
Last year, blacks dared to dream anew, envisioning a future in which Obama’s election would be the catalyst for an era of prosperity and more racial harmony. Now that the election’s afterglow has nearly faded, the hysteria of hope is being ground against the hard stone of reality. Things have not gotten better. In many ways, they’ve gotten worse.
According to the most recent jobs data, not only is the unemployment rate for blacks nearly twice that of whites, the gap in some important demographics has widened rapidly since Obama took office.
Blow’s words show the naivete of blacks chained to the liberal plantation. An era of prosperity? Even if that were to occur with Obama’s spending and increasing taxes, many uneducated blacks would be passed over in favor of more qualified candidates. Blacks decide to drop out of school at a significantly higher rate than other races. This puts them at a tremendous disadvantage when they seek employment. Blacks were naive to think Obama could help them outside of taking taxes from the productive to give to the non-productive. Nobody should be surprised blacks are unemployed at twice the rate of whites. Whites stay in school at a higher rate and don’t suffer the reputation of being lazy or having a bad attitude in the workplace. That statement is not politically correct but it is true.
Predictably, Blow goes on to play the tired old black victim card:
We are now inundated with examples of overt racism on a scale to which we are unaccustomed. Any protester with a racist poster can hijack a news cycle, while a racist image can live forever on the Internet. In fact, racially offensive images of the first couple are so prolific online that Google now runs an apologetic ad with the results of image searches of them.
And it’s not all words and images; it’s actions as well. According to the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s 2008 hate crimes data released last week, anti-black hate crimes rose 4 percent from 2007, while the combined hate crimes against all other racial categories declined 11 percent. If you look at the two-year trend, which would include Obama’s ascension as a candidate, anti-black hate crimes have risen 8 percent, while those against the other racial groups have fallen 19 percent.
Overt racism, really? Blow’s pathetic example of a photo on the internet that makes Michelle Obama look like a monkey as racism ignores the same hundreds of photos that equally portray George Bush as a simian. If a black is involved, it’s racism. If a white is involved, it’s comedy or freedom of speech in Blow’s world of politically correct victimization. As for hate crimes, since Obama’s election we have seen an epidemic of blacks attacking whites for no reason other than to video and laugh at the event. Last week, we saw a black man murder in cold blood four white Seattle police officers. Any study showing a decrease in black on white hate crimes is only because in our politically correct society blacks are not charged with hate crimes! The rapes, murders and mutilations of Channon Christian and Christopher Newsome are glaring examples of horrific black on white crime not being labeled hate crimes. White people are finally acknowledging the severe danger blacks pose to them.

The racial animosity that Obama’s election has stirred up may have contributed to a rallying effect among blacks. According to a Gallup report published on Nov. 24, Obama’s approval rating among whites has dropped to 39 percent, but among blacks it remains above 90 percent.
White people, as Blow later admits in his article, elected Obama. They did not abandon him because he is a black man. He was black when they voted for him! They are abandoning him because of his socialistic and anti-American political decisions. Obama lied to Americans promising “the most transparent administration in history.” It has been the most opaque in memory. He also said he would change Washington by working in a bi-partisan manner with Republicans who have been totally shut out from legislation. Generally, Obama lied about his real intentions..to socialize America. Blacks, showing they are monolithic and racist, have stuck by Obama no matter what he does or does not do. They will continue to support him. The only thing Obama could do to lose black support is become a Republican.

Also, this hasn’t exactly been a good year for black men in the news. Plaxico Burress was locked up for accidentally shooting off a gun in a club. Henry Louis Gates Jr. was locked up for intentionally shooting off his mouth at his own home. And Michael Jackson died after being shot full of propofol. Chris Brown brutally beat Rihanna. Former Representative William Jefferson was convicted.
Every instance of black men being in the news for negative reasons is because of bad personal decisions. This is the part liberal blacks (redundant alert) never acknowledge. There are always consequences for every decision. AWD has encouraged blacks to make good life decisions, get an education and work hard. If they were to follow my advice, blacks would see their station in life improve drastically. There are too many successful blacks in America to prove this. But, unless a moronic rapper or pro athlete, every successful black American has worked hard and put aside the monolithic, victim beliefs the Democrat party teaches. Blow ends his piece with:
The Age of Obama, so far at least, seems less about Obama as a black community game-changer than as a White House gamesman. It’s unclear if there will be a positive Obama Effect, but an Obama Backlash is increasingly apparent. Meanwhile, black people are also living a tale of two actions: grin and bear it.
Wow! Obama cares about himself rather than anyone else? Did you figure that out all by yourself? Blacks would do much better to follow AWD’s admonition of personal responsibility, education and hard work than pin your hopes on a politician to make your world better because he has pigment in his skin. As for Blow’s saying blacks must “grin and bear it,” I would counter “work and do something about it!”
Personally, I grew tired a long time ago of blacks blaming me for everything wrong in their lives. I accept no responsibility for black babies born to single mothers at a rate exceeding 70%. No responsibility for them dropping out of school. No blame for more black men in prison than college. No shame for black males causing violent crime at a rate greatly exceeding their percentage of the US population. No other country in the world gives blacks the opportunity to succeed as does the United States. Unfortunately, liberals have brainwashed many blacks into believing they are victims of racism, slavery or other airy excuses to not achieve. Shame on all of them!

Great post! I hope your right in that Obama will be a one-termer in the vain of Jimmy Carter. I have to worry though that if the congressional elections a year from now are a landslide for the Republicans, then that could possibly help Obama. His socialist agenda would be quashed and his administration would be forced to govern from the center as he originally promised. This could in turn possibly placate the American people and cause many to take focus away from the government, especially if the economy improves. Obama and his allies in the deadstream media could then paint the picture that any current positive situations are because of him.
Decades and decades and centuries later, we still have to hear this sh$t. Why?
Blacks, both by their direct behavioral choices, and by our indirect “support” for every damn thing black, are ruining this country.
Solution? Easy. Other then when necessary (i.e. law enforcement, the workplace, no one else to deal with at a store, etc…), ignore them. Stop befriending them; stop buying or listening to rap or anything else they deal in; no smiles or even eye contact, etc, etc. Leave them to their own “proud” devices. Segregate them every way humanly possible. Hell, they do it to themselves, already!
As children are wont to do, blacks want to “have their cake and eat it too” – another way to say “no consequences”. They want every right you and I have PLUS the right to be separate – WHEN THEY WANT TO (see: congressional black caucus, etc).
Eff that. I have nothing to do with blacks unless I have no choice. No one else should either.

There are several things in this post that interest me. For one, part of Obama’s low approval rating among whites can be partially attributed to radical white leftists at places such as counterpunch.org who think that Obama has betrayed progressive ideals and is really advancing a right-wing agenda. For me, I don’t necessarily approve of what Obama has been doing, but my coming of age during the Bush years has given me low expectations for the Executive Branch. The fact that blacks continue to overwhelmingly support Obama despite the fact that he has done little if anything to improve their lives reveals the cloying nature of blacks. Somehow, I cannot help but be reminded by the O.J. Simpson case. While I have gotten over O.J. a while ago, I still find him fascinating. Prior to murdering his wife, O.J. was adored by white America. In fact, he spurned black people at every turn, which probably made him an Uncle Tom in the eyes of many blacks. Yet, upon being tried for murder, blacks rally behind him as if he were Malcolm X or Huey Newton. Blacks are easily the most predictable race on the face of the earth. Look, I am not saying that we whites are not without our pathologies. The school shootings, pedophilia, drug use, and other problems continue to embarrass me, as they should most whites. HOWEVER, whites are far from monolithic. Though many anti-racists claim that the majority of whites are reactionary and bigoted and that “people of color” elected Obama despite overwhelming white opposition, 57% for McCain versus 43% for Obama (that’s a rough estimate) shows far more diversity than 95% of the black vote for Obama in the general election and 90% in the primary. One black scholar Marc Lamont Hill tried to explain monolithic black support for Obama by insisting that blacks always vote heavily Democratic. However, when told that over 90% of blacks voted for Obama over Hillary, he then proceeded to point out that blacks simply wanted to vote for someone they can relate to. Even though I generally don’t respect Bill O’Reilly, I have to admit that he got the upper hand on Marc there. Another interesting thing is the way Charles M. Blow is perceived by certain members of the black community. For example, radical black writers and thinkers such as Ishmael Reed see Blow as a “blame the victim” tough lover. Of course, we here at AWD do not endorse Blow’s views. What continues to fascinate me is the way so many whites still insist that we can reconcile with blacks. I hate to break it to them, but you cannot viciously oppress people for centuries and then not expect them to want revenge or “justice” (which takes a punitive form). I am not saying this to appeal to white guilt or castigate white people. No white individual is more opposed to white guilt and the whole “dead white male rapists” dogma than me. The point I am trying to make is that blacks and whites cannot live in the same space together, unless one is making concessions to the other. While I understand that the racial partitioning of the United States is unrealistic and will most likely not occur, I cannot think of another solution.
Blacks ALWAYS support blacks.
It will never change.
What will change is whites are just fed up with the black 11 percent of the population telling the 66 percent white population that they are down-trodden due to the whites..
We all know that blacks have done this to themselves. Yes, the blacks have caused their own problems, but want the Al Sharpton’s and the Jesse Jackson’s to blame it all on the whites.

I don’t have a lot of confidence in democrats or republicans and think Bush was probably one of our worse president’s but I think Obama has the potential to top him.
Tina, I have to agree with Stevil. Obama only won by 5 votes after a bad Bush presidency and a terrible Repub candidate in McCain. Obama is going to bite the big one in 2012.

I hope you’re right. Of course if 12 million Mexicans and thousands of other assorted illegal towel-heads are granted across the board citizenship as planned by Hussein, the results may be slightly different.
I’m curious, and hopefully one of you more educated on the topic will be able to answer this. If the dems got their way and made all the illegal Mexicans citizens, would all illegals be included? I know a few Russians here, the odd Canadian, even a Lebanese guy. Would they all get instant citizenship? All a person has to be, is here illegally, and poof they are a citizen?

EAA, I think a lot of people fight “family planning” or abortion because of religious reasons. Personally, I am against abortion for me and my family. However, since it is legal, I don’t have the right to stop someone from getting an abortion. It’s their business. It’s the same as those PETA idiots throwing paint on someone’s fur coat. Wearing fur is legal so back off! If you don’t want to wear fur, don’t wear fur. I’m not equating a baby’s life with a fur coat but the principle is the same.
I think you’re stereotyping rich white people. I happen to know quite a few of them and none of the women who don’t work leave their children with nannies and housekeepers. I’m sure there are some but in today’s America, mothers are too busy hauling kids all over creation for music lessons, sports, etc. lessons.

Well it is more of the same old blame game,go to school and you are acting white,drop out and commit crime,sell drugs then you are one of the brothers,when they do go look for a job, and they can not even fill out the application because of their ignorance,not going to school,learning to read and write english,not making up words you think are correct,and when they do not get the job, it is because of the white man,not because they can not even put a sentence together to communicate,we all see the ones that are at the work place it is because of affirmative action,everyone knows they are not qualified [very few], to be there,and should not be there, because the government forced the employers to hire them, yes they know it too,that is why they have the bad attitudes,i suggest if you have a need to talk to them, do what i do,hi,goodbye you would really be surprised how you do not have to hear there excuses and whining,the same old excuses the same old whining.
Hi, Thanks for replying. It is really scary I agree, if you simply talk about certain issues where whites are mistreated it is like being set upon by diversity wolves. The operating liberal idea is that whites are always on top and always the oppressors and i do not buy that. I’ve seen too many examples and lived in London to know that is not true at all. I do fight the overt racism of blacks, Hispanics as well as white supremacists etc .I’m just NOT ashamed to speak out and therein lies the problem because it will be self hating white liberal as much as a Rainbow Crackolition type that will fight the basic logic of whites being discriminated against and thus many whites on the fence are forced towards extremism because no one else will speak to them or for them. There has to be a movement of white people saying ” The 60′s are over,We are not ashamed, we are not hateful, we are not separatists, we are just as proud of our ancestors and we are NOT responsible for historical injustices or the media’s stereotypes.” I hate Spike Lee for this very reason, he’s the most racist person in movies-EVER- yet any time a better director makes a film he yells “racist stereotypes” and he acts like his films are not glorified minstrel shows when they contain nothing but stereotypes and fools.
As for population control, I don’t care for abortion either but men need to realize how hard it is for a woman, of any race, who does not have insurance to simply get birth control pills and other forms contraception. It is a VERY involved process with centers that are hard to reach, old, in bad areas and few and far between. If you want to stop, as I do, so many children unwanted, on benefits, thrown under the bus for abusive parents then there needs to be a concerted effort to teach parenting skills, carry the bag of flour around for a week and offer contraception or at least the options to seek them out, in public schools.
Agreed, many conservatives have good values that extend to self control but as someone who once lived in a lower income white rural community which was very Christian, you saw many kids roaming and having casual sex at an early age. At some point we whites have not blame black culture or the “Jewish run” media for white youth crime and promiscuity. Al Sharpton is blame culture incarnate& that is not how I see myself.
