REPUBLICANS SHOULD CHANGE THEIR PRIMARY PROCESS

NO MORE CLOWNS LIKE THESE!

NO MORE CLOWNS LIKE THESE!

It’s time the Republican party changes the way Republican candidates are selected. It’s also time the Republican party gets out of the primary process! Last year’s debacle with John McCain shows some of the dangers with the present method of selecting candidates. McCain was out of money and dead in the water until open primaries let Democrats vote in number for him and revive his candidacy. Winner take all States such as West Virginia are also a very bad idea. Republican leadership also needs to stay out of the process as they have too much money to throw at “their good friend” incumbents. Here are some changes in the Republican primary process AWD would like to see:

  • Iowa isn’t necessarily the first state to hold a Republican primary.  The calendar of state primaries should be selected by which states have better supported the Republican party by percentage of Republican voters in that state.  Why let a State that voted for Obama have the first say on the Republican candidate?
  • The NRSC and NRCC should not be allowed to endorse or give money to any candidate until after the primary.  In Arizona, John McCain and J.D. Hayworth are currently tied in the primary process…and Hayworth hasn’t even declared!  John Cornyn, chair of the National Republican Senatorial Committee, will throw millions to McCain to help him defeat Hayworth.  Why?  Because McCain is a good ol’ boy and an incumbent!  By supporting the incumbent, it is a disincentive for primary challengers to run.  They start at a tremendous disadvantage.  This is also not fair to the voters in the district or state.  The NRSC and NRCC should only provide endorsement or monetary support once the primary is over.
  • Close the primary process as much as possible.  Anyone can declare they are a Republican or Democrat for primary purposes and vote in the general for their chosen party.  However, declared Democrats should not be allowed to vote in a Republican primary.  Or vice versa.  Republican voters should select Republican candidates as much as possible.
  • There should be no “winner take all” States in the Republican primary process.  If one candidate beats another 51-49%, the loser should take their 49% into the final tally.

Those are a few of the changes AWD would like to see to make the Republican primary process more fair to all.  McCain and Hucksterbee ganged up to defeat Romney last year.  While Romney was far from perfect, he would have made a much better Presidential candidate than McCain.  We should demand these changes in local precinct meetings and to our local and national leaders.  2012 is too important to have a few candidates playing games in the selection process.  The Republican party also is too involved in the primary for fairness. As for Iowa, when they start voting for Republicans they can vote first in the Republican primary process.

AWD, I don’t see any improvements in the primary system, unfortunately, the scumbag RINOs have control over the system and they’ll refuse to change it for the better,…..just more of the same ‘ol crap.

I don’t think they’ll ever learn,…that’s why I’m for a completely new conservative 3rd party, although I am aware of the “pitfalls” in that too.

  2. G.H. says:

I’m not sure this present crop of Republicans is much better than the Demonrats. My voting philosophy is going to be No Incumbent Left Standing. (NILS) We can clear all of the House and one third of the Senate every two years by this method until we see if there’s any sanity left in our elected representatives.

  3. TexasFred says:

Until we can rid the GOP of ALL RINOs, the GOP will continue to give us nothing better than McCain and Huck…

GOP = Dem Lite, and that is totally unacceptable…

  4. bigtimer says:

Could not agree more with your suggestions AWD…unfortunately I don’t think I’ll ever be around long enough to see this ever change…hope does spring eternal though….we have to start somewhere….and your suggestions are a great place to start…God knows we need it, now more than ever.

  5. olds442 says:

I’ll throw my hat into the ring and wholeheartedly agree with all of the above posts.

The U.S. Senate is a country club for the rich and self-proclaimed elite. It is NOT a governing body by the people or for the people. It is a private club that looks down at the rest of us at best as a nuisance that has to be dealt with once every six years, at worst as common white trash and illterate negroes.

If you don’t believe me, buy your favorite senator a couple of drinks to get him well oiled up, and then wait for the jokes about his constituents to begin.

Maybe next time the jokes will be on THEM.

  6. bigred says:

I sure am glad I found this place. I am so sick of the current situation that I could choke.

GH – I like the NILS. The way I have been saying it for a while is Dump The Incumbents – Vote for anybody who is not in office right now. I have also been encouraging any Democrat I know to do the same. We need a change. We need a house cleaning (pun intended). What got me to thinking along the lines is what OLDS442 posted about Congress being a country club – although my thoughts were more along the lines of ruling class. To me they have taken on characteristics of the Politburo. They live the good life while the people live in squalor and starve. If nothing changes I see that becoming more the norm. We need a ballot revolution.

  7. bigred says:

And by the way, Roll Tide Roll !!!

  8. AWD says:

Big Red, congrats to the Tide. They put one on the Gators yesterday. Will be fun to watch them play the Horns.

Can’t find a single thing wrong with any of these ideas AWM.
Can’t go along with tazzmax’s idea of a 3rd party, though(unless it’s the dems that are creating their own 3rd party). Although I completely understand your frustation, all that will guarantee is a dem win for as far into the future as I can see.

Much better, imho, to broom the Rinos from the Republican Party, and get some true conservative blood in there. Such as what’s happening in FL and AZ.

The NRSC called me a couple of weeks ago, asking me to renew my membership, as they were in need of funds.

My reply: Nope, not going to happen, after the debacle of NY’s 23rd district, I will be sending my donations directly to the candidates I believe to be the most conservative.

I sort of got the feeling she was hearing that quite a bit.

  10. Snake Oiler says:

Off topic, OK? I could seriously feel Tebow’s pain when it showed him crying on the Florida sideline. Ironic that the verse he wore yesterday read (NLT translation): “I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world.”
I like McCoy but I hate the Horns. RTR! Chew ‘em up and don’t spit ‘em out.

  11. Yes, the Tide is rolling – glad to see them defeat Florida and run-the-score-up Urban Meyer. The Tide kicked their posteriors. I was a big fan of the Bear and I went to Georgia, which is rolling in the wrong direction lately. I hope the Bear could see it from up above. I like Tebow but not his team or coach…How about letting the Southern states vote first in the Republican primaries? Georgia was going more Republican as many other states started heading toward the Demos. The South is now the backbone of the Repub party. Party bigwigs would never allow additional Southern influence to happen… Too many primary voters fall for the old media ruse of “who can win in November,” in which the lamestream medialeft helps pick a November Repub loser such as McCain. Add in allowing Demos to vote in Republican primaries as AWD pointed out and presto – another November debacle. Why would the media creeps ever dispense sound advice to Republicans anyway? Remember when they tried to sell Colin Powell as the great Republican hope? I knew instantly he was a loser from the glowing media buildup. … MM

  12. Keep Honkin, I'm Reloading says:

Can’t help but pull for Tebow, regardless of what team he plays for.

    straight up good kid

  13. CryHavoc says:

Term limits would be a start for the congress Just like the presidency-two terms and you’re out. Also make it illegal for them to become lobbyists. And pigs will start flying tomorrow.

  14. Snake Oiler says:

What you said, KHIR! Tebow and McCoy are both cut from the same cloth. As for the Repub dilemma, unless science advances to the point of being able to re-animate Reagan before the primaries, it looks like a real grab bag. Remember the old adage, “Ten men wisely led will beat a hundred without a head”.

  15. Paradox says:

..well,well,well,as for me,I am tired of both parties and their attitude that they know more than the average voter. Both frickin parties have those who know more than the voter and I want to weed out the old wood and get back to the Constitution and service to our Country, of the People, by the People and for the People…The past 7 or 8 Congresses have failed to do anything substantive about solving the issues this Country faces. Its been all partisan maneuvering and any action has been self-serving while the real problems like Afghanistan and run-away entitlement programs continue to fester…If I were any frickin Congressman/woman, I would look out come November 2010. You were sent to Washington to solve problems, not create new damn ones. You have gotten the full attention of the voters now but for all the wrong reasons. This past 10 months have been the last straw for the vast middle class…
some of the sorry a$$ Repub contingent in the House has stood in strong opposition to most of the insanity that Plastilosi and company are unleashing daily in our seats…they’re still no better, but maybe any Repub incumbent who clearly articulates this next November can come through this anti-incumbent season unscathed, as long as:
    1) the Repub leadership(which is a frickin joke) continues to propose detailed alternatives.
    2) the DemonRats continue on their reckless push to go forward on death care, crap and trade and a ton of other s**t and ignore public opinion…
    3) voter disillusionment with the almighty Bozo deepens in the next 11 months….
..then the other reality is, many of those incumbent DemonRats will be in trouble precisely because they are incumbents…there is a wave beginning to sweep the country to rid us of these leeches of both parties.I don’t think there’s a “safe” congressman or congresswoman in D.C. since many will come under attack from their own frickin party members, tired of their bulls**t!….keep f*****g around,ya bunch of clowns….your destiny awaits you…

    BigRed:

    Slight editing- changes in CAPS:

“Congress IS a country club – although my thoughts were more along the lines of ruling class. To me they have taken on characteristics of the Politburo. They live the good life while the people live in squalor and starve. If nothing changes I see that AS THE norm. We need a (ballot- delete) revolution.”

    Now, isn’t that better?

If that isn’t bad enough…look what Harry Reid said on the Senate floor today, a little more than an hour ago…talk about outrageous…if the republicans do not coalesce now and speak out in unison I am going to puke!

It makes me want to slap the taste out of his mouth.
