IT IS TIME FOR A NATIONAL REFERENDUM ON TERM LIMITS FOR CONGRESS!

posted by ANGRY WHITE DUDE 4:32 PM
Wednesday, October 8, 2008

The Angry White Dude has long been disgusted with the so-called “leaders” that we send over and over to represent us in Washington.  Under Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid, the Congress and Senate’s popularity ratings have sunk to all-time lows.  They are even below the well-deserved low popularity of President Bush, if you can believe that!  Our government is broken but continues to grow larger and usurp more of our liberties and money.  Because of McCain/Feingold (another reason to hate McCain), it is harder than ever to vote out the bums.

Our founding fathers did not intend on elected officials to stay in office for 35 years like that idiot Chia Hair Biden.  Or worse yet, Ted Kennedy and Robert Byrd.  These men have become rich and powerful beyond the founding father’s wildest dreams!  They answer to no one because they are locked into their positions.  Opposing candidates find it nearly impossible to raise money or to gain recognition against these evil…yes evil men and women who care only for themselves and gaining more power.

The time has come for us all to start screaming for a national referendum on term limits.  If it is good enough for the Presidency, it is certainly good enough for the congress critters…as my friend Bigtimer calls them.  I am sick of these worthless pieces of self-interested trash staying in power for generations.  They have NO IDEA of what most of us face daily.  They don’t care that gas is $4.00 per gallon.  They don’t care if we cannot put enough food on our tables.  They don’t care if we cannot save enough money to educate our children.  It doesn’t affect them!  And then they vote to take nearly $1 trillion dollars from working taxpayers to pay for mistakes that they themselves made.  I don’t trust them.  I don’t like them.  I don’t want to see them anymore.  This week, a poll showed that 59% of Americans wanted to throw out each and every member of Congress.  I agree.  It is time that Americans start taking back our country before it is too late….it could be already.

The AWD has said it before:  WE DESPERATELY SEEK STATESMEN AND ALL WE HAVE ARE POLITICIANS!

If we at AWD are the first to start this referendum, so be it.  Many of us post at other sites.  It is time that we start spreading the word.  Vigorously!  This is not a conservate or liberal problem.  It is an American problem.  I am mad as hell….are you???  Let me hear your thoughts people.  Spread this post to all of your contacts as well.  Mark it on your Digg and other networking accounts…..let’s get busy!

A major problem is that with all the porkbarrel politics that go on, it is impossible to hold any of these guys accountable for anything. Pols add on little lines here and there onto important bills so as to convince individual representatives to sign on. However, this allows other pols to vote against a bill and waive all accountability. It’s disgusting. These guys need to step up, be men, and use the responsibility that we gave them. If they can’t, we need to get them the f*@# out! The sooner that we realize that we live in a republic and not a true democracy, the better. Referendums are the way it should be, but unfortunately too many people don’t vote including the you-know-whos. If we went to a referendum system, maybe the white man could take back this country, but you know Sharpton won’t let that happen…..

I hope the Palin factor has an effect on Washington business as usual, she may fight this BS on her own as whistleblowers can become quite wealthy.

We the people need to put our voices to work. Enough is enough with these losers!

You got that right man! All of it. How can anyone fight the “good ole boy” politics [also good ole girl too] unless we get new people in there. But how? Its gonna take a LOT of support from the average citizen. Who am I kidding? Government doesn’t care about the average citizen.

  5. admin says:

Ann, spread the word…we need momentum to get the process started. People need to start talking about term limits.

Greetings AWM: I found your site by accident looking at something else…let me say that I agree with most of your thoughts and have enjoyed the comments for the most part – even though I am not a white male, I am angry about many of the same things.

Let me give you my perspective briefly. Living in New York State, a person with my views is not easy to find. (There are mostly democrats and communists in this state, which is much of the reason why it has gone to hell – i.e. NY is an economic wasteland) Being from NY, I began life as a liberal democrat of course, but have evolved with age and education. I no longer even consider myself republican, as I am thoroughly disgusted for numerous reasons. Let’s just say that this state is about to go entirely democrat and the republicans deserve it for being tax and spenders=democrats…like I said, d&c.

As far as the presidency goes, if we are stupid enough to elect a communist president, then I guess we deserve that too. I know my state would elect a ham sandwich if it had a “D” on it, sad as that is. And, a good deal of blame must be laid on the republicans for making the communist seem the better alternative. Fiscal conservatism is the most important conservatism in my opinion and there are few r’s left who adhere to it.

The only good that can come out of this is a republican resurgence in four years – maybe each generation needs its own Jimmy Carter before they get their Ronald Reagan? I remember my parents waiting in line for gas when I was little…how bad will it get this time?

Term Limits: I would agree that term limits seem to be a good idea on the surface – this would eliminate the drive of the politician to do anything to be re-elected; this desire to stay in office at all costs is the driver of most bad policy decisions. (They would kill their own mother, seriously.) On the other hand, it does take time for a senator or congressman to learn the issues – education, for example is very complicated. Constantly turning over the electeds would prevent this expertise from being developed. This would lead to a situation where the (non-term limited) professional government staff would make most of the decisions by default – note that no one elects staff. I am not sure that is desirable either. Maybe an eight or six year limit is a reasonable compromise?

Also note that the ban global-warming-smoking-fat-nanny-mayor bloomberg has gotten around the term limits on being mayor of NYC. He is getting a third term in spite of the law with the help of other politicians. I think a constitutional amendment would be necessary to prevent this. It’s just too easy for the lawmakers to get around mere laws…Very best, RMM

RMM, welcome to the AWD family…even though you aren’t a white male, we value your comments. We allow and encourage comments from everyone because it is only through open, honest dialogue without political correctness can we learn.

I agree with your comments and feel for you living in the People’s Republic of New York, my friend.

Thank You awD – Sorry, I messed up your name. Or maybe it was one of those subconscious slip-ups. You’ve probably noticed that very annoying habit of “hip” people referring to both men and women as “DUDE”. Personally, I am not fond of this practice.

Gender Neutrality is just more of the PC garbage that is ruining this country now.
I’ve book marked your site and I’ll be back!

  9. bigtimer says:

    Well awd…

As you know, I used to think a lot about this too about 15 or more yrs. ago when it was being brought up and tossed around a lot.

We have term limits…what we need to do is stop the good ol’ boy/gal seniority on the committees/hearings…they need to have something where thy have to rotate every two yrs. who are head of those committees.

Example KKK Byrd and Stevens have been heads of their parties appropriation committees…..forever.

    Just a thought…

  10. Ryan says:

    RMM:

As a fellow New Yorker, I agree with your views. I am from the city where it is even harder to find a reactionary/libertarian type ideology. As far as the state electing anybody with a D infront of their name… see Hillary Clinton. And don’t even get me started on Bloomberg. I always thought it was funny the way low income and minorities said they could identify with him. Why? Because he takes the 1 train to work and makes a dollar as his annual salary? It’s all a political gimmick. The man is a billionaire and has never walked a day in the shoes of the people who are now looking the other way as he tries to skirt the law and seek an extra term. Pathetic.

“freedoms and liberties will be curtailed”

You mean there will be domestic surveillance and people will be arrested for political dissent? If so, that’s a frightening portrait of the future you paint.

  12. admin says:

If they are surveilling commies like you and arresting those throwing urine on people like your friends were doing in St. Paul, I certainly hope so.

  13. 79FirebirdMan says:

I’m all for it. Six terms in the house, two in the senate, for twelve years total in either house, eligible to run again after twelve years. If re-elected, eligible to serve same number of consecutive terms, then barred from office. This, I feel is a compromise to balance the need for term limits against the need to have experienced leadership so that our government is not crippled by too many inexperienced freshman senators and reps.

The only problem is this: making it difficult to frivolously amend the constitution is our Achilles heel. A referendum would have to pass by a 2/3 majority vote in both houses, 67 in the Senate, 290 in the House. Before it can make it to a referendum vote to be ratified by 3/4 vote of the states, it has to make it past committee vote and corrupt, incompetent, power-hungry, wannabe dictators like Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi. IT’LL NEVER HAPPEN. I fear that the only way we will ever take OUR country back is by force and armed revolt.

  14. 79FirebirdMan says:

Also, staggered, so that our government is not crippled by all of our Congress critters running for re-election at once.
