DOES LIVING IN THE USA STILL GIVE THE BANG FOR THE BUCK?

The Angry White Dude has been thinking a lot recently about the future of the USA.  I feel that we have been sold down the river by politicians in Washington.  Financially, we are leveraged to the hilt.  We continue to send billions to towelheads who despise and want to kill us for their oil, when we are sitting on a sea of oil that our “leaders” will not let us drill.  We send billions to China each year for cheap goods while they build a world-class military and flex their muscle all around the world.  We have allowed millions of illegal aliens to enter our country for free healthcare and education.  The government has made it impossibly difficult for American businesses with a myriad of employment laws that make us non-competitive.  Unions loyal to DemonRats have ruined our industies and sent them overseas.  Our working people are taxed beyond belief.  Most couples have to have both husband and wife working…one to pay bills and the other to pay taxes.  We sit for hours in traffic driving to and from work while burning $4 gasoline.  Our houses have lost 20% of their value in the last year and many have seen their savings cut in half because of government malfeasance in the Freddie and Fannie debacle in DC.  Everyone the AWD knows is worried about how they will be able to pay bills.  A loss of job for most of us would put us on the street.  We are stressed to the breaking point. See a trend here? Think it will get better?

Is it still worth it to live in the US?  I don’t know.  Last year, the AWD took a trip to Costa Rica with an old college friend.  The cost of living there is roughly half of what it is in the US.  Granted, people aren’t driving Lexus cars there and they don’t live in McMansions….but they don’t care.  And neither do I.  It came to me during my trip that we work for things and the government in the United States.  Homes, cars, boats, taxes, etc.  Marketing companies have done their job well.  We have been brainwashed to thinking that if we don’t drive a certain brand of car then we are failures.  I got over that madness years ago.  The Costa Ricans national motto is “pura vida.”  That translates to “pure life.”  They are not rushed, they stop and talk with each other in the street, they laugh and smile.  What do they know that we don’t?  I will tell you.  They know that family and friends are the most important things in life.  Not things.  As AWD’s beautiful mother always says, “things are nice, but they’re only things.”  Have we painted ourselves into a corner here where we cannot stop working because of the things that we have to pay for and what the government puts on us?

With the DemonRats standing a very good chance of controlling the government after this election, I am asking myself more every day why and if I want to live here anymore.  Taxes will go up, freedoms and liberties will be curtailed, we will be weaker militarily and the economy will further tank.  They will gerrymander districts to ensure that they maintain power.  America will continue to move further to the left.  All DemonRats do is screw things up for the taxpayers paying for all of their “programs” and “investments” which AWD calls “disasters.”  Something has to be done.  We need to take control of our country or more of us will be heading to distant…and cheaper, happier…shores.

I agree completely. I moved to the Philippines in Jan 2006 where some things cost about 1/3 to 1/5 the price as in the states. I now live in a 2 story 3 bedroom apartment, drive a 1200cc motor cycle, have a live in house maid, a young and beautiful filipina wife with new baby boy in the house. My average monthly expenses are about $1100 a month. I couldnt live this well in the states for triple that.

I am lucky to have a skill (software development) that allows me to work from any where in the world.

AWD I agree with you 100% There is one thing that would bring us back from the brink of disaster I believe anyway and that is for us to get back on the Gold and Silver standard. If we did that our currancy would emeditly become the strongest in the world, that would mean of course that we couldnt print money like it was pouring water. Our economy would rebound almost instantly and the entire world would have to follow suit or perrish. 0bama is going to lead us to our doom and all the sheeple that follow him dont care, they only see a smooth talking guy that they think will fix everything.
    And that is my opinion

When Clinton was reelected we looked into moving to Costa Rica too…we were very serious.

If we were the same age as we were than, I would definitely move their if Obama, or heck, maybe even McCain got elected, it will depend on the outcome in congress…and that ain’t looking all that good at the moment.

We can’t move now…too may problems for us at the moment…but gosh I sure wished there weren’t!

    You’d see my dust…

The only people who get any bang for their buck in the US these days are the illegals. They can go into any hospital and have emergency care provided for them because of the “ethics” of hospitals not refusing any patient. When they can identify who the person really is, they treat and release, thus, raising the cost of care at said institution. So, when people who are not covered go to the hospital, the hospital will charge an arm and a leg to the uncovered patient. Uninsured Americans foot the bill for the illegals. They don’t pay property taxes so they don’t help fund the costs of the city schools that they send their children to. And God forbid you get into a motor vehicle accident with one. They will just drive away and before any litigation takes place, they will flee for another area. Not to mention them sending cash out of the country back to their homeland. This forces the gov’t to have to reprint money, thereby increasing the national debt and lowering the value of the dollar. Maybe the socialist Europeans could take on some of the American White Man’s Burden and then we’d see how the value of the Pound and Euro did.
