Why must White Dudes be so Angry? Why??

Perhaps it is caused by the absolute stupidity and utter insanity that is thrust upon us that we are told to tolerate or be called a “racist”. That should make anyone Angry. If the reverse were the case, and the stupidity and insanity were thrust upon Non-White Dudes under the threat of taunts of “racism” would the reaction be different?

In the beautiful coastal town of Wilmington, North Carolina, the taxpayer funded University of North Carolina Wilmington will soon “add” to the social enlightenment of “whitey”. In the name of “higher” education true academic excellence will come to UNCW in the spring semester of 2009. A new “academic” course will be offered for academic credit in both the Social Work and Education Departments. That alone should wave a big red flag. But, I digress. This new course called “Effective Interactions with African-American Males” will be offered for both senior credit and for graduate degree credit.

This taxpayer funded venture in academia has the following Course Description:

“Using an African-centered philosophical worldview and a racial socialization framework, this class will use participatory education to equip undergraduate and/or graduate students, to “better” understand and effectively work alongside and with young adult African-American men. The core tenets underlying this class are racial oppression exists, matters, is ubiquitous and pernicious and that those most affected are often ignorant of this reality.”

“Students will critically examine the social and emotional effects of racism on academic, occupational, cultural and relational well-being of African-American males. Students will discuss relevant readings, media analysis, community-based research, and self-reflection. Students will also examine and develop strategies to restore a healthy definition of African-American manhood and its significance for self, family, and community relationships; culminating in a community restoration initiative proposal.”

Perhaps along with the current proposed “redistribution of wealth”, our futures may provide re-education opportunities so that we will all learn “Effective Interactions with African-American Males”? Would not that be valuable “change”?

But, what if the new course at UNCW was “Effective Interactions with White-American Males”? The Course Description could be:

“Using a White American-centered philosophical worldview and a racial socialization framework, this class will use participatory education to equip undergraduate and/or graduate students, to “better” understand and effectively work alongside and with young adult White-American men. The core tenets underlying this class are racial oppression exists, matters, is ubiquitous and pernicious and that those most affected are often ignorant of this reality.”

Can you hear the outcry? The charges of “racist” and “racism” would fly from all directions. The “Main Stream Media” would descend like a plague of locust. The vermin Revs. JJ and Al would flock to the spotlight.

Does that mean there could be a “double-standard”? Heaven forbid!

The University of North Carolina Wilmington course offering of “Effective Interactions with African-American Males” will be “taught” by new faculty member Dr. Lathardus Goggins, II. His UNCW profile reveals the following:

Dr. Lathardus Goggins, II, Assistant Professor, begins his tenure-track position within both the Departments of Educational Leadership in the Watson School of Education and Social Work in the College of Arts and Sciences. Most recently, Dr. Goggins hailed from Arcadia University where he served as the Associate Dean for Multicultural Affairs. He received his Ed.D. from the University of Akron in Ohio, his Master’s degree from Kent State University and his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Akron. Dr. Goggins completed dissertation was titled “The Academic STARS Retention Model: An Empirical Investigation of its Effectiveness Cognate: Urban Studies.” Dr. Goggins research involves the investigation of academic success of the African American male. Additionally, Dr. Goggins plans to develop the African American Center for Study of the Black Male and successful programs related to this group. A unique course being developed is the Psycho-educational Interactions with Black Males course to be available as a graduate study course.
