Shoot What the Banger’s Shoot

I find the city of Chicago fascinating, but not in ways that you might think. The metropolis that brought us the abomination of Barack Hussein Obama is rapidly slipping into the third world under the leadership of the Democratic Party and its policies. It makes you wonder what kind of organizing he was really doing.

The city is also the perfect laboratory to understand guns and gun crime. The sheer volume of the shootings, homicides, mayhem and carnage gives us the potential to examine something that is not often studied. The question posed is “what do the gangbangers shoot?” You and I, up to our necks in White Privilege (whatever that is) discuss firearms in different terms. We buy and carry them legally. We own firearms for the defense of ourselves, our families or for sporting purposes. The average gangbanger is a different animal. His/her motivations, while sharing some commonalities are a bit different. He wants a weapon to protect or acquire turf in the drug trade. He likes to show it off because his associates will know he is “strapped.” (I’ve learned to enjoy some of the terms coming from Ebonics) He is quite ready to use it if he feels “disrespected.” (The English word respect has been bastardized and no one really knows the true definition of the Ebonics version) Concealment is not a problem because of the lifestyle and mode of dress. Above all, he wants it to be disposable if he has to use it. On the other hand, legal gun owners want their weapon back after the investigation is over. Do you feel me now?

Why would I even care what the thug rats shoot? For one it might be nice to know, especially if you’re living in urban environments that puts you into direct contact with these honor students. Secondly, it’s fascinating to see how preferences for firearms among the criminal class have changed over the past few years. After all, they are consumers too with wants, needs and well as a budget. Lastly, there’s a wealth of experience that is untapped related on to how to survive a gunfight. After all who should know more than these guys?

A number of years ago, I read an article about handguns used in crime. By far the most common weapons were 38 caliber revolvers. These were from various manufacturers with Smith and Wesson as well as Taurus figuring prominently. Next up were the cheap 25 ACP and 380 ACP “Ring of Fire” semi-autos. You probably remember these makers with names like Lorcin, Jennings and Raven. All of them are now defunct due to lawsuits from various anti-gun groups. They were also termed under the moniker “Saturday Night Specials”. At the bottom of the top ten were the 9mm’s, with Ruger and S&W featured. In those days that would have been the excellent P series produced by Ruger as well as the horrid Sigma from Smith and Wesson. The 40 had just been introduced and at that time was completely off the radar.

When looking at the complete list of the firearms recovered by the Chicago PD for 2014, you can find just almost every handgun imaginable. What you won’t find very many of are the so-called mean and nasty “assault weapons.” Nevertheless the bangers in the city now lovingly known as Chiraq have demonstrated certain preferences. The top twenty are shown in the caption picture above.

What is clear is that the 38 caliber revolvers have lost favor to the 9mm and semi-autos. Smith & Wesson is the leading manufacturer of all weapons in total, with S&W, Ruger and Glock being the most popular of the semis. The bangers have also demonstrated an extreme affinity toward products made by Glock. The Austrian pistols have such a high desirability that unlike other weapons, the thug rats are very reluctant to dispose of them even after a crime.

However, many of them are of the cheaper variety with High Point, Bersa and a goodly number of the old Saturday night specials featured. Nevertheless the bangers have clearly gone toward better weapons with greater firepower. For unknown reasons higher end handguns such as Sig or H&K as well as 1911 type pistols don’t seem to be common. The 45 ACP chambering only makes one appearance in the top twenty and that’s in Glock pistols.

How do I read the tea leaves in all of this? If you’re a banger, you need a gun and any gun will do. Much like a poor choice in a girlfriend you’ll want to upgrade as soon as possible with a high capacity 9mm or 40 semi-autos favored. You might just need the firepower. Case in point is the recent gunfight that killed the Atlanta rapper who went by the name Bankroll Fresh. Its reported over 50-shell casing were found at the scene.

If you acquire a Glock, you’ve reached a pinnacle of gun fashion in the thug world. Just remember not to pull a Plaxico Burris when you tuck it into your shorts.

I have to acknowledge the fine web site Hey Jackass and its owner, the indomitable W.H. Thompson for information and links to other sites including DNA info Chicago. In addition, I commend the excellent article in The Trace for invaluable data regarding criminal handguns in Chicago.
